GURU NANAK DEV UNIVERSITY

Guru Nanak Dev University was established at Amritsar on November 24, 1969 to mark the 500th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. It is both a residential and an affiliating university. In conceiving the future course of the University, the objectives enshrined in the Guru Nanak Dev University Act 1969, emphasised that the new University would make provision for imparting education and promoting research in the humanities, learned professions, sciences, especially of applied nature and technology The University is successfully catering to twenty thousand students in various faculties at University Campuses and Constituent Colleges. Education is the global force that provides the aptitude to recognize our capabilities, and become progressive, rational and benevolent citizens.it gives vent to the overwhelming and budding potential of the youth and diverts their dynamism and vitality towards a constructive and productive society and economy. When we drink deep from the fountain of education, we can achieve the intellectual and ethical integrity and become prudent, open-minded, energetic and substantial beings. Our harnessed capabilities towards the right direction enable us to face day to day challenges boldly adding an extra spark to life. Effective education is not about earning a degree only but it is also a preparation for the journey of life. Guru Nanak Dev University guarantees academic excellence and holistic development of its students. All the constituent colleges are a part of this attempt to attain distinction. I am pleased to note that Guru Nanak Dev University College, Jalandhar, with a sprawling campus is catering to educational needs of the youth. The college, which started as an arts college, has now also introduced MBA, MCA, M.Com, M.Sc. (Mathematics), BBA, BCA, B.Com (Financial Services), Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application and many more courses under Open and Distance Learning Programme of Guru Nanak Dev University. The College has produced various gems in academics, sports, co-curricular activities and NSS outshining in its district and the State. The organization of social and cultural functions at the college inculcates in students philanthropic values like compassion, humility and integrity. The establishment of University Information Centre and a help-line for the benefit of the students hailing from Jalandhar, Kapurthala and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar; an Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) for the welfare of entrepreneurs; and the Red Ribbon Club Unit are praiseworthy developments.
