As a child growing up in a village in Odisha, I had the realization that proper healthcare was a luxury reserved only for the rich. My life experiences made me painfully aware of the lack of suitable healthcare facilities in the State. With that background, after a long and successful career in the construction industry, I established the Blue Wheel National Healthcare & Educational Trust on 25.06.1999. The Trust aims to promote world class healthcare and educational services to the people of Odisha and nearby states. Today, the Trust owns and operates the State’s most reputed Nursing College & School- Lord Jagannath Mission’s College & School of Nursing at Bhubaneswar, Blue Wheel Institute of Nursing Sciences (BINS), Chandpur and Blue Wheel College (+2 Science & Commerce), Chandpur, Nayagarh. Since its founding in 2004, the College & School has educated and trained approximately 400 nurses at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels. Many of them today work for some of the most reputed hospitals in India and abroad. Till a few years ago, the people of Odisha only had government hospitals to turn. Today, we do have private hospitals and nursing homes, but their services are inconsistent, facilities are overcrowded or inadequate, billing is over-prices and the transition of doctors is very high, leading to a lack of quality and continuity in the provision of healthcare.
